OOM: Now with added Carlotta
There is snow on the ground still, but it's certainly thawing; the sea by the barrow-hill is a bit choppy today.
It is late afternoon, and the farmstead lies quiet in the evening sun.
"Now go," Teja says to Carlotta. "They shall make you welcome. Give them my greetings -- nay, give them my love, and Adalgoth and Hilde most of all."

She holds him close once more, with little Molly still sobbing quietly between them, and Bramble's reigns held in her hand. Then, she mounts Bramble bareback.

Then, he closes his door for what he expects is the very last time ever.

Bramble eventually nudges her with his nose, and she looks up. It's cold, Molly's cold, and she needs to get them both safe...
She gets up, shaking like a leaf, and takes the horse's reigns. Then shyly approaches the house and knocks on the door.

But there is a little black cat that appears through a cat-flap soon to see who there is, smelling familiar humans and a familiar horse.
A cat Carlotta knows.

There is also William Evans.

He wants to come forward and ask questions but she doesn't look good and the end of the festival was complicated. Best to wait until she's not crying before asking any questions.

She's met Adalgoth and Gotho before though, so she heads towards them.
"I... I'm trapped here. Teja sent me. He sends his love."
no subject
"So when you came down here, the king was still there?" he asks.
'Alive' would be the wrong word.
"How bad is it?"
no subject
She hesitates.
"I will pray for him but you should prepare that he may not be able to return."
Molly begins to wail again.
no subject
"At least he sent you to safety," he says. "William, Alaric, Athalwin? Come and help me with the horses, including the one Carlotta brought?"
Gotho has got off her horse now, and comes over to hug Carlotta and wipe her tears with the back of her index finger.
"Let's get you both inside," she says.

This isn't the time to worry about his father and goes to help with the horses.
no subject
"This is my daughter, Molly." she says, between sobs. "The horse is Bramble."

The other woman, Liuta, opens the door to the house.
"Let's get the fire going, and let's get you two warm and dry and fed."
no subject
Will's on the other side of the portal! Not just away at war, but...
She can't say another word, but numbly follows Gotho and Liuta in.

"War?"
no subject
"He's alive." she says, holding the baby in her trembling arms, too numb now even to cry. "But he's in another world. Like Teja. Not the one that's ending, but I don't know how we'll get back."
Hard swallow. "He's in the war. He's never even had a chance to meet Molly."
no subject
Gotho brings her a hot drink. "Shall I change the baby's napkins?" she offers.

"You need not repay us," she says. "You're the King's almost-daughter, and he asked us to take care of you; that is enough for us to make you ever welcome here, until you find your way home."

"Thank you but I'm not a princess, we're travellers from a circus. I will help in any way I can. I muck out the horses at home with Molly strapped on my front."

"Hilde!" Liuta says, exasperated.
